[Phone; drone filter]

Well... looks like we're all going to have to do a little cutting back this Christmas.  But you know, even if there's no power and not as much food, at least we've all still got a good, solid roof over our heads.  If you look at it that way, the town's been a lot kinder to us for Christmas than they were for Thanksgiving.  I'm sure this is nothing we can't weather if everybody pitches in and helps each other out.  Maybe we can set up a food bank or some sort of shelter.  It's times like these when a community really needs to come together, after all.

[Early evening; door to door]

[True to his earlier sentiment, Dad is going to pitch in and do his part to make sure his neighbors are at least able to have something to eat during these rough times.  He's always been a firm believer in preparedness, and thank goodness, because by now he's built up quite a stock of cream pies.  There's probably a few hundred of them safely captchalogued away in his trusty wallet modus, so he figures he can spare a few here and there to feed his hungry neighbors.  Dad will be going around knocking on every door in town on the first day of the event, hoping to share the wealth.]

Knock knock, neighbor!

Ah, no, I wasn't disagreeing with that part. I think it is very noble for you to consider such an effort, really. I was merely remarking that about the first part.

Things are a lot easier when people do them together. It's just common sense.

It's true, yet it seems it's not in human nature to work together a lot, is it..? Once something happens, they usually start thinking of just their own good first, ignoring everyone else.

Not everyone is like that, you know.

The majority is, though. It's a little sad, I know, but denying that would be like fooling ourselves.

Well, call me a fool, then, I guess.

Hmm, I guess 'an optimist' might do for now too.

Sometimes you just need to believe in people a little bit.

After a while believing gets hard though when you keep facing the harsh reality, right..? I've experienced first hand exactly how selfish people can be.

In that case, one might start to call it foolish, since you're denying what you see around you.

It's not really denying anything. I just don't think there's any point in assuming the worst of someone right away. That's a pretty cynical way to look at the world. And I feel like at some point, you start to run into self-fulfilling prophecies where you just start looking for anything bad just to prove yourself right, or where they stop caring about being a good person because it's clear you never believed in them in the first place.

[ ... there's a moment where she's quiet, since.. even if she knows there's merit in what she's saying, she knows that's true as well. but she really can't help thinking the way she does, having becoming embittered through the experiences with her family. ]

Is that so.. Well, and what would you say about the people in this place then who truly care for nothing but other people's suffering? Surely you've met a few of them already.

Those are people to be careful around. I'm not saying people like that don't exist, or even that you shouldn't keep your guard up sometimes. But I think being suspicious of everyone is a pretty sad way to live. You just end up alone in the end.

Ah, perhaps I'm a little envious of the way you think.. It's not easy to switch mindsets once you get into them, after all. Well, I suppose you should just try to keep it up for as long as you can in this place.

I intend to. Can't let this place win, after all. It's important to keep up a positive attitude.
