[Phone]

Well, you heard that little girl on the phone yesterday!  Let's get decorating!  Maybe we can make it into a kind of neighborhood competition - the best decorated house on each street wins a prize.  What do you say?

[Action; 311 Miller Street]

[Well, Thanksgiving and the nuclear wasteland that apparently comes with it in Mayfield is over.  And like any good red-blooded American citizen could reasonably expect to be on the weekend immediately following, Dad is standing at the top of a ladder in front of 311 Miller Street wrestling with a string of hopelessly tangled Christmas lights.  He seems to be managing well enough, but there's always the odd knot to untie or a missing bulb somewhere on the line.]

How's it look?

[Yeah, he's talking to you, random passerby.]

[Action; Achewood Bakery]

[According to a phone call he got right after he finished hanging up the Christmas lights, Dad evidently has a job working as a baker.  News to him, but he chalks it up to another of the town's strange idiosyncrasies, kisses his wife goodbye, and heads downtown to his new place of employment.]

'Morning, everyone!  Looks like I'm going to be working here starting today.  Anything I should know before I get started?

[Once he gets down to business, Dad is actually a pretty skilled baker.  One would think he spends a sizable amount of his spare time doing this sort of thing, and one would be right.  However, on his first day he's spending almost the entire day churning out nothing but cream pies of various sorts.  At the end of the day, coworkers may notice him walk over to the leftover pies that didn't sell (of which there are easily dozens) and pull out his wallet.  Seconds later, the entire stack of pies is gone.]

[Action; Mayfield General Store]

[After work, Dad heads over to the general store to pick up some vital dad supplies.  In particular, he seems to be buying ludicrously large amounts of Barbasol brand shaving cream and pipe tobacco.  By the time he's done, he's got several carts loaded up with bulk crates of the stuff.  It's probably going to take him a couple of trips to bring it all to the front to pay, but at least loading it into the car won't be much of a problem.]

I'm sure we could find a way to make it work.

I think it would be very cutting edge. Probably something no one has tried before.

We'd be veritable decorating pioneers.

So, wizards in clown clothes or harlequins with pointy hats and robes? Or maybe a little of both?

Perhaps artful alternating knicknacks?

I suppose we don't technically have to wait for the town to return our collections to us. We may be able to start up new ones right here in town.

Maybe we should go shopping for some knick-knacks sometime.

We could make a charming family outing of it.

[Because that's probably what Rose wants to do on some Saturday, shop for knicknacks. With these two.]

Sounds fun. Let's talk to the kids about it sometime.

I'm sure Rose will be thrilled.

Actually, she's pretty sure of the opposite.]

I bet John'll be pretty excited for it too.

[...Yeah, he actually does think that.]

[Hilariously, both of their opinions are correct.]

While we're on the subject of decorations, how large is the most impressive harlequin in your collection?

About as tall as I am, give or take a few inches.

What a shame. Zazzerpan is about thirty feet, give or take a few inches.

I was rather hoping to set two enormous statues on either side of the driveway. It would make for an impressive sight.

[impressed whistle]

That's one tall wizard. But maybe we can get someone here in town to make us the matching one for the other side.

A thirty foot harlequin? I'm certain that we can find someone here who's adequate to the task. And I think the results would be more than worth it.

I agree. Think of how impressive our front lawn would look.

I daresay we'd be the talk of the whole town.

Oh, they'd definitely be talking about that, all right.
