[Phone]

Well, you heard that little girl on the phone yesterday!  Let's get decorating!  Maybe we can make it into a kind of neighborhood competition - the best decorated house on each street wins a prize.  What do you say?

[Action; 311 Miller Street]

[Well, Thanksgiving and the nuclear wasteland that apparently comes with it in Mayfield is over.  And like any good red-blooded American citizen could reasonably expect to be on the weekend immediately following, Dad is standing at the top of a ladder in front of 311 Miller Street wrestling with a string of hopelessly tangled Christmas lights.  He seems to be managing well enough, but there's always the odd knot to untie or a missing bulb somewhere on the line.]

How's it look?

[Yeah, he's talking to you, random passerby.]

[Action; Achewood Bakery]

[According to a phone call he got right after he finished hanging up the Christmas lights, Dad evidently has a job working as a baker.  News to him, but he chalks it up to another of the town's strange idiosyncrasies, kisses his wife goodbye, and heads downtown to his new place of employment.]

'Morning, everyone!  Looks like I'm going to be working here starting today.  Anything I should know before I get started?

[Once he gets down to business, Dad is actually a pretty skilled baker.  One would think he spends a sizable amount of his spare time doing this sort of thing, and one would be right.  However, on his first day he's spending almost the entire day churning out nothing but cream pies of various sorts.  At the end of the day, coworkers may notice him walk over to the leftover pies that didn't sell (of which there are easily dozens) and pull out his wallet.  Seconds later, the entire stack of pies is gone.]

[Action; Mayfield General Store]

[After work, Dad heads over to the general store to pick up some vital dad supplies.  In particular, he seems to be buying ludicrously large amounts of Barbasol brand shaving cream and pipe tobacco.  By the time he's done, he's got several carts loaded up with bulk crates of the stuff.  It's probably going to take him a couple of trips to bring it all to the front to pay, but at least loading it into the car won't be much of a problem.]

Haha, good eye! Shaving cream makes a nice whipped cream substitute in a pinch if you need to throw a good pie.

[Dad rubs his chin a bit.]

Not that I don't need it for shaving too, of course. I like to keep a lot on hand. You never know when you'll be caught away from home.

[Kira's torn between laughing and sighing. This guy looks a bit too old for this kind of prank, but then again, her own husband still gets into moments where he does odd things, so she finally settles for a shake of the head and a small smile. Her words, when she speaks, are joking.]

Your kids must love you.

Haha, yeah, my son's a real chip off the old block! He might even be good enough to out-prank his old man by now.

[Okay, that does earn him a small giggle. She can't help it, considering she can see it somehow. In fact, Kira's still laughing a bit as she speaks.]

So you two take turns pranking each other?

Something like that. It's kind of a family tradition, you might say.

Oh dear. Well, I'll have to keep an eye out for possible pranks I guess. Just make sure you get some real food in that basket too.

Oh, don't worry, I will. Man cannot live on pie alone, after all.

That's very true. [Another smile] I'm Kira, by the way.

[Pleasant smiles back!]

The name's Egbert. Nice to meet you, Kira.

You as well. Do take care.

[She bows slightly and starts off to finish her shopping]
