busy_fists: (A call from dad)

2nd Hat

[Phone]

Well, you heard that little girl on the phone yesterday!  Let's get decorating!  Maybe we can make it into a kind of neighborhood competition - the best decorated house on each street wins a prize.  What do you say?

[Action; 311 Miller Street]

[Well, Thanksgiving and the nuclear wasteland that apparently comes with it in Mayfield is over.  And like any good red-blooded American citizen could reasonably expect to be on the weekend immediately following, Dad is standing at the top of a ladder in front of 311 Miller Street wrestling with a string of hopelessly tangled Christmas lights.  He seems to be managing well enough, but there's always the odd knot to untie or a missing bulb somewhere on the line.]

How's it look?

[Yeah, he's talking to you, random passerby.]

[Action; Achewood Bakery]

[According to a phone call he got right after he finished hanging up the Christmas lights, Dad evidently has a job working as a baker.  News to him, but he chalks it up to another of the town's strange idiosyncrasies, kisses his wife goodbye, and heads downtown to his new place of employment.]

'Morning, everyone!  Looks like I'm going to be working here starting today.  Anything I should know before I get started?

[Once he gets down to business, Dad is actually a pretty skilled baker.  One would think he spends a sizable amount of his spare time doing this sort of thing, and one would be right.  However, on his first day he's spending almost the entire day churning out nothing but cream pies of various sorts.  At the end of the day, coworkers may notice him walk over to the leftover pies that didn't sell (of which there are easily dozens) and pull out his wallet.  Seconds later, the entire stack of pies is gone.]

[Action; Mayfield General Store]

[After work, Dad heads over to the general store to pick up some vital dad supplies.  In particular, he seems to be buying ludicrously large amounts of Barbasol brand shaving cream and pipe tobacco.  By the time he's done, he's got several carts loaded up with bulk crates of the stuff.  It's probably going to take him a couple of trips to bring it all to the front to pay, but at least loading it into the car won't be much of a problem.]

The green ones...

[Dad rights himself on the ladder after hanging that part of the chain, peering at it for a few moments before locating a few green bulbs in a row.]

...all right. How's this?

[Stretching the cord a bit to move them over.]

That's it. Much better.

[Sip of Martini.]

It's really a shame they haven't invented inflatable Santa snowglobes yet. The yard could really use one.

[She..... may be joking.]

I wonder if I could rig something up...

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-05 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
We'd be the only house in town that has one.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Think of how jealous the neighbors will be!

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I can't wait to see their faces as soon I can figure out how to get the town to send me back Zazzerpan the learned.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-07 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
...Zazzerpan the Learned?

[He hasn't heard of this one yet.]

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-09 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The crown jewel of my collection of wise and powerful wizards.

[Straight face.]

They decorated my house quite stylishly.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-10 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny you should mention decorations. I always set our place with harlequin statues. Mostly for John, really - he always liked that kind of stuff. But they kind of grow on you after a while.

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-10 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Rose has always shared my interest in wizards, too. Perhaps we could find a way to combine the two decorating styles? Wizards and harlequins....

At the very least it would be unique.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure we could find a way to make it work.

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think it would be very cutting edge. Probably something no one has tried before.

We'd be veritable decorating pioneers.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
So, wizards in clown clothes or harlequins with pointy hats and robes? Or maybe a little of both?

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps artful alternating knicknacks?

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose we don't technically have to wait for the town to return our collections to us. We may be able to start up new ones right here in town.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe we should go shopping for some knick-knacks sometime.

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
We could make a charming family outing of it.

[Because that's probably what Rose wants to do on some Saturday, shop for knicknacks. With these two.]

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds fun. Let's talk to the kids about it sometime.

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure Rose will be thrilled.

Actually, she's pretty sure of the opposite.]

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I bet John'll be pretty excited for it too.

[...Yeah, he actually does think that.]

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Hilariously, both of their opinions are correct.]

While we're on the subject of decorations, how large is the most impressive harlequin in your collection?

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
About as tall as I am, give or take a few inches.

[identity profile] pinkscarflady.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
What a shame. Zazzerpan is about thirty feet, give or take a few inches.

I was rather hoping to set two enormous statues on either side of the driveway. It would make for an impressive sight.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-21 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
[impressed whistle]

That's one tall wizard. But maybe we can get someone here in town to make us the matching one for the other side.
