3rd Hat

[Phone; drone filter]

Well... looks like we're all going to have to do a little cutting back this Christmas.  But you know, even if there's no power and not as much food, at least we've all still got a good, solid roof over our heads.  If you look at it that way, the town's been a lot kinder to us for Christmas than they were for Thanksgiving.  I'm sure this is nothing we can't weather if everybody pitches in and helps each other out.  Maybe we can set up a food bank or some sort of shelter.  It's times like these when a community really needs to come together, after all.

[Early evening; door to door]

[True to his earlier sentiment, Dad is going to pitch in and do his part to make sure his neighbors are at least able to have something to eat during these rough times.  He's always been a firm believer in preparedness, and thank goodness, because by now he's built up quite a stock of cream pies.  There's probably a few hundred of them safely captchalogued away in his trusty wallet modus, so he figures he can spare a few here and there to feed his hungry neighbors.  Dad will be going around knocking on every door in town on the first day of the event, hoping to share the wealth.]

Knock knock, neighbor!

In that case, one might start to call it foolish, since you're denying what you see around you.

It's not really denying anything. I just don't think there's any point in assuming the worst of someone right away. That's a pretty cynical way to look at the world. And I feel like at some point, you start to run into self-fulfilling prophecies where you just start looking for anything bad just to prove yourself right, or where they stop caring about being a good person because it's clear you never believed in them in the first place.

[Oh. Well. She opens the door all the way.]

... You act a lot like 'em, y'know.

[ ... there's a moment where she's quiet, since.. even if she knows there's merit in what she's saying, she knows that's true as well. but she really can't help thinking the way she does, having becoming embittered through the experiences with her family. ]

Is that so.. Well, and what would you say about the people in this place then who truly care for nothing but other people's suffering? Surely you've met a few of them already.

Those are people to be careful around. I'm not saying people like that don't exist, or even that you shouldn't keep your guard up sometimes. But I think being suspicious of everyone is a pretty sad way to live. You just end up alone in the end.

Ah, perhaps I'm a little envious of the way you think.. It's not easy to switch mindsets once you get into them, after all. Well, I suppose you should just try to keep it up for as long as you can in this place.

How convenient! [she looks at the pies] Should I just cut a piece?
ooeeooahah: (Hm)

[ She tilts her head, curious. ]

Chocolate.

[ No need to wish for mocha silk... ]

I intend to. Can't let this place win, after all. It's important to keep up a positive attitude.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Dad laughs a little, finally coming inside.]

Well, can't blame a guy for being neighborly.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, go ahead, try some. That one's chocolate, the one in the middle is lemon creme, and the last one's key lime.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Dad reaches into his wallet, and out comes a chocolate cream pie.]

There you are.
ooeeooahah: (Seeing)

[personal profile] ooeeooahah 2011-12-18 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
...Thank you...

[ She takes the pie, watching the wallet. Ilsa's eyes seem to glow blue for a moment. ]

... that was... is that a tesseract or a temporal shortcut?
noluckduck: (I-- what--)

[personal profile] noluckduck 2011-12-18 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess, but... Why?

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a fetch modus.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Because I have about a thousand pies, and everyone's short on food. Isn't that reason enough?
noluckduck: (That thing is a WHAT?!)

[personal profile] noluckduck 2011-12-18 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
... A thousand pies?
ooeeooahah: (smile)

[personal profile] ooeeooahah 2011-12-18 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Something outside my experience, and I couldn't follow that. Amazing things this place has brought together. If it weren't for the madmen at the wheel, it could be enjoyable.

[identity profile] 321-lifdoff.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry about me, Dad. Me and my friends can handle anything that comes our way.

Also I've already been stabbed to death a couple of times, so, you know, how much worse can it get?

[identity profile] motherofjegus.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[she takes a bite of the chocolate]

Oh! It's so sweet! I don't think I've had anything so sweet before!

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, maybe not a thousand, but I've got a lot of them.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ain't that the truth.

[He takes a few more pies out of his wallet and sets them aside for the rest of the family before folding it back up and putting it away.]

Well, I'd better be going. I've got lots of these to deliver. Can you do me a favor, though?

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you can, son. I-

[And then he processes that part about stabbing and stops.]

Whoa, now, back up a second, John. Stabbed to death? A couple of times?

[UNCOMFORTABLE SILENCE.]

...We're going to have to have a long talk about that. Why don't you come on over. Seems like something I ought to know about.

[identity profile] busy-fists.livejournal.com 2011-12-19 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dad smiles proudly.]

It's one of my favorites.
noluckduck: (I-- what--)

[personal profile] noluckduck 2011-12-19 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
... Where?
