[Huh.  Well.  This is different.  Different, and yet somehow the same.  These aren't the clothes Dad went to sleep wearing, and this isn't the bed he went to sleep in, but this is definitely the person he went to sleep with.  Brow furrowed with concern, he shakes his head and slowly climbs out of bed to have a look around the room.  After a cursory glance, he determines that his hat and pipe are missing.  Distressing news indeed - every good dad knows you should never be without your hat and pipe.  Eventually, he returns to bedside, placing a hand on the woman's shoulder and attempting to gently rouse her out of what is surely a wine-induced slumber.]

Wake up.  Something's wrong here.

[Later on, once the two have gotten their bearings a bit and gotten dressed for the day, Dad and Mom can both be found in the kitchen around the breakfast table.  Dad is standing over the oven, wearing a 'Kiss the Cook' apron and frying up some eggs and bacon to start the day.  Toast is in the toaster, ready to go in a minute or two.  Mom, for her own part, can be found at the table drinking coffee.  Irish coffee, rather.  Heavy on the Irish.  It's more or less just coffee flavored liquor.  They haven't met the other housemates yet, but surely the scent of a delicious breakfast wafting through the air should be more than enough to lure them downstairs.]

[Action; around town]

[After a good hearty breakfast - or a good stiff drink, as the case may be - Dad and Mom can be found walking around Mayfield both together and separately.  They both seem to be rather calm about the whole thing, and by all accounts look to be taking their change of surroundings rather well.  After all, this is hardly the first time either of them has woken up in a different place with no prior warning.  Dad's managed to find a replacement hat and pipe, which he's thoughtfully smoking as he walks about, and Mom seems to already have a gin martini in her hand.  It's always five o'clock somewhere, as they say.]

((OOC: Feel free to catch them as they're exploring the town.  Please put in the subject line whether you want Dad, Mom, or both in the response.))

Damn right. They haven't made the slammer that Spades Slick can't bust out of. ...It's just taking a bit of time, that's all.

There you go, that's the spirit! No point in giving up until you've tried everything, after all.

hi i'm late and action;

[ He must really be tired. It was getting a bit chilly after all, and John did stay up late fooling around with the radio. All of these previous actions could possibly have factored into a state of deliriousness and insanity.

Because that man was not his Dad. Nope. Not at all. Because his real Dad would be wearing his spiffy white business outfit. Anything other than that would have been preposterous, and most definitely a fake.

Of course. So moving along now... and rub the eyes while he was at it. This wasn't a nice topic to dwell on, so he'll just walk in the other direction...

[Dad, on the other hand, has been expecting to run into John at some point or another. Ever since the photo album earlier in the day, he figured his son was probably running around town somewhere, and Rose confirmed it for him at breakfast. It's a little disconcerting for him when John turns and walks the other way, but that certainly isn't going to stop this dad from reuniting with his son.]

Huh... and here I thought you'd be more excited to see your old man again. You really are growing up fast, aren't you, John?

I haven't been here much longer, a few days perhaps. I've been warned that this town appears pleasant but horrible things happen here on a rather regular basis, I would be careful. We are fortunate so far but it may not last as long as we would like.

Ah, tragically Rose and I failed to plan a dramatic beach reunion in time. Everything was all booked up months ago, so we just had a quiet little chat over breakfast.

[Oh Bro, she thinks you're hilarious.]

[Raised eyebrow goes here.]

I must confess that you don't seem familiar to me, but perhaps the circumstances of our acquaintance merely slipped my mind.

Do they have some way to bring back the departed? Or merely some assurance that no one will die?

Yes, please do. It's actually quite fascinating.

I don't suppose they've got a schedule up anywhere?

[Only half joking.]

[She gives Dad a smile.]

Yes, I suppose we do have quite a bit of a history together. Perhaps one day we'll have to tell them the story.

[She takes another sip of her coffee.]

And while the circumstances are a bit strange, we may as well accept whatever good can come out of it.

[If she and Dad do have to face yet another strange world with odd inhabitants and confusing rules, then she'd certainly rather do it together. And having their kids there seems like an unbelievable stroke of luck, considering how much trouble they'd been having trying to find them before.]

I don't know specifics but it puts many of the residents who have been here for an extended period on edge. I've seen two people who carry swords with them at all times in case they are attacked.

A schedule would be beneficial for us, but I don't think the town provides one.

Your brother, huh?

[Thinking...]

Say, what'd you say your name was again? Strider, wasn't it? Your brother's name wouldn't happen to be Dave, would it?

Well, thanks for the warning, then. At least we'll be able to be prepared.

[ There is absolutely a special smirk set aside for the good lady Lalonde, because if you can't respect a snark buddy, what are you doing with your life.

His face doesn't show it, but there's a good second's pause in which Bro does the surprised thing. ]

Yeah, that's it.

*You'd probably remember a gray girl with horns, huh. Kanaya's brow furrows in thought.* I'll concede it's possible, but the sense of recognition is rather eerily strong.

Is it possible that you are acquainted with any of the following humans? Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, John Egbert or Jade Harley?

Hmm, I do alright without one, but it may not hurt to find out if I can lay my hands on a gun somehow.

Can't be too prepared, after all...

[Mom is nothing if not a very cool customer. So there is only the barest flash of surprise in her eyes. Her lips quirk up in an amused smile.]

As a matter of fact we are. Although I'm not entirely sure 'acquainted' is the word I would use.

[Thoughtful sip of martini....]

Rose is my daughter.
